MONROE, N.C. – House Bill 3, recently passed by the North Carolina General Assembly, brings significant changes to the City of Monroe’s municipal elections. The bill moves Monroe’s elections to even-numbered years and changes them from nonpartisan to partisan contests. These changes apply only to the City of Monroe and do not affect the remaining 13 municipalities within Union County.

The filing fee is $5 and must be paid by check, credit or debit card. All contests are nonpartisan and no primary will be held.

Monroe, NC – The Union County Board of Elections will hold a meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 316-B East Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112 to conduct a recount if a recount is requested by an eligible candidate under N.C.G.S. § 163-182.7(b) or (c). Only a contest eligible to be recounted under these provisions will be subject to the recount. Members of the public may attend the meeting, but space may be limited. If no such recount is requested, the meeting will be cancelled.

The Union County Board of Elections will perform a random sample hand-to-eye count of the 2024 presidential contest on Monday, November 11 at 2 p.m.
