NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Union County Board of Elections will hold an Absentee Ballot meeting on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 9 a.m. at the Board of Elections office located at 316-B East Windsor Street in Monroe. The Board may take such actions related to other matters as the Board deems appropriate, and as permitted by applicable law.   

At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the Board of Elections will meet to complete the official canvass of the November 2 Municipal Elections and to certify the final results.

Candidate Filing for 2022 Primary Election Begins in December

Candidate filing for the March 8, 2022 Primary Election begins Monday, December 6, 2021 at noon and ends Friday, December 17, 2021 at noon. Eligible candidates must be affiliated with a political party for at least 90 days prior to filing for candidacy in a partisan primary election.

Some Voters Temporarily Transferred for Municipal Elections

Some voters in Monroe, Marshville, Marvin and Wingate will vote at different precincts for the November 2 Municipal Election.

In August, the Union County Board of Elections adopted a resolution for the following temporary transfer of voters:  

Monroe – Voters residing within the city of Monroe and within Precinct #025 Rock Rest Elementary School will vote at Precinct #003 St. Luke’s Lutheran Church located at 909 Circle Drive.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Union County Board of Elections will hold an Absentee Ballot meeting on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Monroe Library Griffin Room located at 316 East Windsor Street in Monroe. Immediately following the conclusion of the Absentee Ballot meeting, the Board will hold its Regular Meeting. Prospective Unaffiliated Candidates Must Submit Valid Petition to be Included on November 8, 2022 General Election Ballot

On November 8, 2022, Union County voters will go to the polls to vote for several federal, state and local offices. A primary election to determine candidates who will be on the ballot in November 2022 will be held on March 8, 2022. The primary election will determine which candidates representing the Republican, Democratic and Libertarian parties will be on the general election ballot.  Unaffiliated candidates do not participate in the primary election.

Changes to Qualifications for Office of Sheriff

Per North Carolina Session Law 2021-107, no person who has been convicted of a felony may run for the office of sheriff in the state of North Carolina. This law went into effect on October 1, 2021 and includes people who have completed their sentence or have had their conviction expunged from their record.
