Candidate filing for the March 8, 2022 Primary Election begins Monday, December 6, 2021 at noon and ends Friday, December 17, 2021 at noon. Eligible candidates must be affiliated with a political party for at least 90 days prior to filing for candidacy in a partisan primary election.

Registered unaffiliated voters in Union County are ineligible to file for the March 8 Primary Election. Unaffiliated voters who want to be included on the ballot for the November 8, 2022 General Election must complete the petition process to be included on the ballot. Filing for the following offices will be held at the Union County Board of Elections at 316-B E. Windsor Street in Monroe. Filing fees must be paid by credit or debit card.

N.C. Senate candidates must be at least 25 years old by the date of the General Election, a registered voter in North Carolina, and have resided in North Carolina for two years and in the district sought for one year immediately prior to the General Election. N.C. House candidates must be at least 21 years old by the date of the General Election, a registered voter in North Carolina, and have resided in the district sought for one year immediately prior to the General Election.

All other candidates must be at least 21 years old by the date of the election, a registered voter in North Carolina, and qualified to vote in an election for the office sought.

Filing for U.S. Congress and all judicial offices, including District Attorney, will take place at the N.C. State Board of Elections at 430 N. Salisbury Street in Raleigh.

If required, a second primary will be held on April 26, 2022 if no federal office is on the ballot or May 17, 2022 if a federal office is on the ballot. The General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
