Early voting for the November 7, 2023, Municipal Elections begins on Thursday, October 19 at the Monroe Union County Library. The last day to vote early is Saturday, November 4. The Monroe Library is the only early voting location used for Municipal Elections.

Early voting hours are 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, which is the only weekend day being used for early voting.

Union County residents who are not registered to vote can register at the early voting site during the early voting period. Upon completion of registration, the newly registered voter can immediately vote at that same early voting site. Same-day registrants must attest to their eligibility and provide proof of residence. The identifying document must be a valid N.C. driver’s license, photo ID from government agency, student ID with a school document showing the student’s address, or a utility bill, bank statement, payroll stub or document from any government agency showing name and current address.

Voters will be asked to show photo ID when checking in at the voting site. Most voters will simply show their driver’s license, but there are many other acceptable photo IDs. For more information, including the full list of acceptable IDs, visit https://www.ncsbe.gov/voting/voter-id.

If a voter cannot show a photo ID, they can still vote by filling out an ID Exception Form and voting a provisional ballot. The Union County Boards of Elections must count provisional ballots with properly completed ID Exception Forms.

Don’t have an ID? The Union County Board of Elections can issue a free photo ID card through the last day of early voting, which is November 4. To be issued a free voter photo ID card, the voter must provide their name, date of birth, and the last four numbers of their Social Security number, and have their photo taken. Additionally, any North Carolina resident can get a free non-driver’s ID card from the North Carolina DMV.
